Machine Embroidery - Learn How to Use a Computerised Embroidery Machine, Software, Download Files & Make Free Standing Lace

This is a Half Day Course.Embroidery1

On this course you will learn how to use a computerised embroidery machine.

You will learn threading, hooping fabric, selecting patterns & changing stitch settings. Learn how extra functionality can be achieved using additional software to create designs on a computer and transfer them to the embroidery machine. Additionally, we will demonstrate how to make 3D designs and free standing lace.

The Sewing Lab has two Brother Innovis 750E Embroidery Machines for use on this course. However, you are welcome to bring your own machine – please advise us beforehand of the make and model prior to attending, and we will make sure that we are able to help you.

Embroidery3This class is suitable for beginners, but it would be helpful to have some basic knowledge of how to use a sewing machine.

Practice fabrics and embroidery threads will be supplied. A laptop loaded with the PE-Design Plus software will be available for use, and internet access will be provided to demonstrate file downloads.

An overlocker can do so much more than finishing seams - they really can change your sewing !!

 

We have several projects that an overlocker can do easily ~ including bridal sewing, scarfs, sarongs, T-shirts, bag making (totes & drawstrings) , quick quilting, cushions, curtains, nets & voilles, applique, lettuce leaf edging & beautiful childrens dresses using shirring elastic.

 

Addionally, we have over 8 attachments that an be used with an overlocker - and will show you how versatile these attachments can be utilised for so many other sewing projects ~ such as gathering fabric, attaching elastic, piping, beading, cording, , attaching bias binding and tape attachment.

 

This class is not suitable for overlocking beginners, as some knowledge of overlocker basics would be useful, or prior attendance of our Learn to Love Your Overlocker Course.

Trousers Pattern

Trousers are a staple to every girl’s wardrobe, be it for the office or a night out, and can be fitted to flatter any shape or size.

Trousers have been in style since the 1920’s when Coco Channel dramatically changed fashion by changing them from men’s to women’s wear - and they will remain in fashion for women for decades to come. They come in all shapes and styles, but the most important thing is to make sure that they suit your shape and style.

On this course you will learn the essential skills of how to correctly measure up.  You will then use learn how to use these measurements to draft a basic trouser block using flat pattern cutting techniques, and make a simple calico toile using a sewing machine – or you can use your own fabric to make a pair of trousers in a day.

In this one day workshop we will teach you how to make a pair of trousers from a block that you can design or from a basic block that we can supply. After taking accurate measurements and discussing body shape analysis – we will then show you how to shape and fit the trouser block to your unique requirements.

Your trousers can be formal, leisure, casual – or even pyjama trousers – we will help you with whatever you want to make – and show you how your pattern black can be adapted to any style of trousers.

We guarantee that by the end of the day this will be your ‘go to’ item in your wardrobe and you will want to make it again and again in different fabrics.

For this course we can provide our own patterns for you to practice with, or you can discuss a pattern that you have in mind beforehand to assess its suitability for the day.

Detailed workbooks covering all aspects of the training and more will be provided.

You will need the fabric you intend to use and a colour matched zip / threads. Upon booking we can advise of fabrics and quantities. Or if you intend to make a toile to practise fitting and styles then you will need sufficient calico or medium weight cotton for making a toile, or you can purchase this from us on the day for a small charge.

This class is suitable for beginners, but it would be helpful to have some basic knowledge of how to use a sewing machine.

A basic sewing kit will be needed, including scissors, needles, colour matched threads, markers etc.

Full Day Course - 10 am to 5 pm, snacks and refreshments provided, but not lunch.
