Sew a Leotard in an Afternoon - Our Quick & Easy Leotard Making Course

     This is a Half Day Course


You will learn the techniques needed to learn to sew with Lycra and stretch fabrics on a standard sewing machines and an overlocker – this class will give you all of the techniques needed to able to make your own Lycra leotard and stretch dancewear, such as binding for arm holes, elasticating the legs and how to embellish your finished creation at home.



We can teach you how to adapt a pattern for press fitting opening at the bottom, sleeve insertion and stretch lace panels.

Patterns and sewing guides will provided – contact us for sizing charts depending upon age and size – an example size chart for both girls and ladies is provided below.


These patterns are easy to cut, assemble and sew in an afternoon.

Some basic knowledge of a sewing machine is preferable – but not essential – as sewing machines and overlockers are provided


For this course you will need to bring Lycra in the colour of your choice or a practise fabric, matching polyester threads (four reels), top stitching thread (one reel), 1 or 5 mm elastic for the legs (depending upon your colour choice), and your standard sewing kit.

                This is a Full Day Course

Make a Beautiful Bear for yourself - or as a gift, and know that you are supporting Support Animal Aid for Bears in Asia *.Paddington Coat

Paddington is perennial favourite with children and adults alike. He can be made in two ways on this course: with high quality plush fur and glass eyes as a heritage bear to keep, or with machine washable fur and safety eyes if it is to be given to children.


On this course you will learn to make a Paddington bear along with his duffle coat and hat.

You don't need to have any experience of sewing - we can help you learn on the day - as Paddington can be made with hand sewing or a machine.

After making Paddington, we have patterns to make his duffle coat and hat too – so your bear will be fully dressed – and if you have a name in mind we have an embroidery machine for those finishing touches !!

Patterns and full course instructions will be provided, and materials can also be supplied for a small fee - but we don’t supply the wellington boots !! 

On this day we will be using the Paddington pattern Simplicity 8223

We will advise you about the materials needed for the course upon booking.

This course is suitable for beginners.

This day will familiarise you with the various sewing machines that are used in the soft furnishing business and the techniques that are used for curtains and cushions.

Learn Basic Sewing Techniques, Blind Sewing, Overcasting, and Accessory Feet

Zip Insertion

Piping for Cushions and Tiebacks

Button Holes and Covered Buttons

Sewing with Overlockers

Finishing Hems with Blind Stitchers

Hand Sewing


Day 2. Making Curtains

This day will build upon the skills learned on day one, to make window dressings with confidence.               

Different Types of Curtains and Design Styles

Learn Accurate Measurement Techniques and Calculating Fabric Quantities

Working with Plain and Patterned Fabrics  

Learn to Sew Lined and Interlined Curtains with Mitred Corners and Weights

Make Samples of Pencil Pleat, Hand Pleated (Double/Triple, Goblet) and Eyelet Curtains 

Contrast Edging, Braid and Beading

Tiebacks ~ Plain and Piped

Working with Poles and Tracks


At the end of this day there will also be an optional discussion around Quoting, Pricing and Terms & Conditions for those wishing to start their own business.


Day 3. Making Cushions

On this day you will learn how to make the different shapes and styles of cushions and how to match a room scheme.

                1 metre of High Quality Fabric for Making Curtain Samples

                (or if you bring your own fabric you can make cushions to match your home)

All samples will be yours to take home along with comprehensive illustrated course materials  - over 80 pages.



Classes start promptly at 10.00 am.

We aim to finish at 4.30 pm each day, but you are welcome to stay and finish your projects beyond this time untill 5 pm..


Refreshments are included, and a light lunch can be provided upon request.


Required for the Course

You will need to bring a basic sewing kit to include scissors, pins and needles, and a thimble if you use one.

For working out fabric quantities a calculator will be useful and a notebook.


Course Fees

The three day course will be £295.00.



Either call or e-mail us to confirm availability for the dates that you would like. Following confirmation you will be required to pay a £100.00 deposit to secure your place. The remainder of your course fee must be paid in full 2 weeks before the start of the course.


Cancellation Policy

If you cancel your place on the course your deposit is non-refundable, unless the place can be subsequently filled.

This is a Half Day Course

In this fun half day course learn how to make a simple but beautiful heart shaped cushion.

Your cushion can be a basic as you would like – or can be more a complex zipped and piped cushion.

We have many designs to inspire you.

We will provide you with a fibre filled heart shaped cushion pad – just bring along some fabric and any decorations you would like to add - or you can use some of our fabrics for a small fee.

No experience is necessary for this class.
